Work begins on ramp at Dorchester West Station

Chris Loder MP on train platform

I have been campaigning for years to get step-free access to Dorchester West! After many years of inaction, Network Rail finally started building work at Dorchester West Station to provide a step-free access ramp to the northbound platform allowing wheelchair users to easily get to Dorset County Hospital by train.

Seeing this work beginning is a huge relief. Disabled access to the northbound platform has been an issue for many years now. It’s disgraceful that disabled passengers are currently unable to access the platform and I have been campaigning to get a ramp installed. Currently, until the ramp has been completed, disabled passengers have not been able to travel to Yeovil, Bath or Bristol by northbound train from Dorchester, but shortly this will be possible for the first time.
