Chris Loder MP has blasted Vodafone over its ‘unreflective mobile coverage’ of West Dorset. The local MP criticised the telecommunication company’s coverage map, which displays an unreflective view of areas of West Dorset as receiving 3G and 4G mobile data. Mr Loder also questioned the proposed merger between Vodafone and Three in his speech in Parliament on the 14th December.
Mr Loder said: “Vodafone’s data on West Dorset does not reflect the reality of mobile data coverage. The company’s commercial pursuit of 5G is short-sighted, especially when many of my constituents are lucky to have a 3G or 4G connection.”
The local MP said he remains to be convinced that the proposed merger between Vodafone and Three is a good thing for consumers, which will see one-third of the UK’s telecommunications market under the control of one company. He said: “It’s important that we give proper consideration to the security, commercial, and tangible implications of this merger to bill payers. I’ll continue to scrutinise the plans, and I’ve called on Ofcom – as the market’s regulator - to do the same.”
