Chris Loder, MP for West Dorset, has given his backing to the next round of bursaries offered by the Lyme Regis Boat Building Academy. A limited number of bursaries are on offer to dedicated individuals who are facing financial constraints. Bursary awards are available for applicants to the Academy’s 40-week boat building course - starting in February 2024 - or the Academy’s 12-week furniture making courses. Mr Loder, who visited the Boat Building Academy in January, said:
“The Lyme Regis Boat Building Academy demonstrates a genuine commitment to those students without financial backing. Bursaries typically offer up to 50% of the course fee, but in exceptional circumstances the Academy will offer 100% of the course fee. In addition, the Academy is offering a pioneering new Bursary for Women, which intends to help eliminate the stigma around women in practical skills industries.”
The local MP continued: “There’s also a great bursary for those financially disadvantaged students located in West Dorset, as the Academy offers the Bursary for Locals, which is exclusively for those in Dorset, and parts of Devon and Somerset. I totally back initiatives to help those from low-socioeconomic backgrounds to have equal access to opportunities, and I would urge anyone interested to apply.”
To apply for one of the bursaries, prospective students can complete an application form available on the Boat Building Academy’s website: https://boatbuildingacademy.com/
